Quite a few people still haven’t heard of Freecycle.org. It’s like a bulletin board/mailing list where people offer stuff for free as long as you come pick it up. You can also post WANTED items in the hopes that someone has what you’re looking for and is willing to part with it. Here are the general guidelines.
